Sara Hernandez has been practicing medicine for 16 years, with the past 5 being devoted to further training in a functional/integrative approach. Sara attended Juniata College in 2002, where she completed a dual major in Biology and Spanish. She then went on to achieve her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. Sara has worked most of her career in the Emergency Department, where she gained experience in handling a vast array of chronic and acute emergent conditions. Seeing the number of unwell people continue to increase over the years fueled her passion to pursue further education in seeking the ‘root cause’ of illness and learning how to address imbalances and disease to achieve full healing, rather than prescribing medications that carry with them their own side effects.
Sara began working in Integrative Medicine in 2017, and continued further education and certifications since then, completing a 2 year program with the School of Applied Functional Medicine and achieving dual certifications in Functional Medicine. She also pursued her interest in mental health by completing two years of training and passing her Psychiatry CAQ Boards in spring of 2023. Sara approaches mental health with a holistic approach by addressing other factors that can impact mood and wellbeing before resorting to multiple medications.
Sara has completed post-graduate studies in clinical nutrition and has supported clients as a health and fitness coach by providing them with nutritional guidance and exercise plans. She worked as a certified personal trainer for years and has a love for athletics and helping athletes achieve their top performance, as well as effective recovery. Through hormone balancing, nutrition, and gut health, she supports patients ranging from those who want to optimize their overall wellness, to those who have been suffering chronically without answers from numerous doctors and specialists.
Sara, her husband, and two sons live on a small homestead in rural Pennsylvania, where they enjoy raising and growing their own food and spending time in nature
